Abstract: Pipeline pigging has been around for many years. It is said that the Romans used the bladders of swine to clean their aqueducts. The inflated bladders, a common child’s toy of the time, was inserted into the covered water channels and moved along by the flow of the water. This sounds familiar. We do it every day. We should give credit to the Romans for the original idea of “pigging a pipeline”.
