Abstract: Preventive and Mitigative (P&M) measures are projects that a pipeline operator may undertake to optimize operational risk. In the US, the analysis of additional P&M measures is required for pipelines that could affect high consequence areas. Regardless of regulations, pipeline companies throughout the world are continually faced with the complexities of P&M decision-making. The purpose of this paper is to present an overview of U.S. P&M measure regulations and available methods and processes that leverage assessment data to support P&M decision-making.
