Abstract: This paper presents an overview of the development of subsea pipeline pig tracking using acoustic ranging. It describes current procedures, details typical performances in various pipelines over the last 15 years, and refers to recent operations where the contractor contributed significantly to the successful commissioning of two major North Sea pipelines (BP's Forties 36-in oil line and Statoil's Zeepipe gas pipeline system). It also outlines possible future developments and applications.
