Abstract: As an operator sets out to conduct an in-line inspection on a pipeline, there are innumerable details that should be considered and planned for. In these days of "lean" organizations, advancing inspection technology, and growing emphasis on getting results quickly and cheaply, it is very easy to initiate and even carry out an inspection without proper planning and up-front considerations. However, as is the case with most projects, the more time spent "up- front", thinking about issues, details and contingencies, the more efficient will be the entire process. This paper is intended to serve as a guide for planning and carrying out an in-line inspection and repair program for a pipeline.
