Abstract: ROV inspection surveys of pipelines have been common in the Gulf of Mexico over the last decade. The majority of these inspections are carried out during or immediately after the initial lay process. However, quite often, there is a need to inspect an older line to check its condition with respect to its future integrity. Recently, more emphasis has been placed on inspecting shallow-water lines for depth of burial after the recent accident of a fishing vessel striking an unburied pipeline, resulting in the loss of lives. This paper will discuss pipeline inspections by ROVs in the Gulf of Mexico.
