| Abstract: |
Government approval for the construction of natural gas pipelines to Limerick and Waterford Cities, including a spur line to Charleville and Mallow, was received by Irish Gas on 23 October 1985.
Wayleave acquisition, detailed design and materials procurement began immediately in order to meet the extremely tight programme requirements. Construction on the cross-country lines started in mid-June 1986 and on the associated city lines in mid-July 1986. Gas supplies were available in all locations by 1st November 1986.
This paper outlines the background and range of activities which contributed to the success of these projects. |
