Abstract: For at least a hundred years (1860-1960) the computing equipment used by most Engineers was a slide rule. Today's engineers are frequently involved with computers in all aspects of their work. The way Engineers use computers varies with engineering speciality and task, but not in an isolated sense, e.g. both a civil and a mechanical engineer might use a computer for stress analysis.
