Abstract: In July, 2004, construction started on the Cheyenne Plains pipeline project. The 600-km pipeline runs from Colorado Interstate Gas Co’s Cheyenne, Wyoming, hub to Greensburg, Kansas, and transports natural gas, which is increasingly being produced in the Central Rocky Mountain area, to existing underutilized mid-continent interstate and intrastate pipelines to serve central US markets. The pipeline is owned and operated by the Cheyenne Plains Gas Pipeline Co, a subsidiary of El Paso Pipeline. The pipeline is the highest strength pipeline, and the first major X-80 pipeline, in the United States. However, the material has already seen some limited use world-wide, including the 250-km Ruhrgas Werne-Schülchtern pipeline in Germany, and over 400km of TransCanada lines installed in Canada.
