Abstract: Risk-based inspection (RBI) is a method for inspection planning of systems or components based on an evaluation of economic, environmental, or safety risk associated with their failure. RBI has been a popular topic in recent years, and many authors have presented general RBI principles. However, most presentations have described a general RBE approach without including details of the philosophy and methodology in practice, i.e. for the determination of the inspection plan. This paper presents a brief summary of RBI principles and methodology adopted within the DNV, and introduces the organization's inspection-planning software ORBIT Pipeline.
