Abstract: In the 1960's the UK water industry changed from using spun grey iron pipes to using spun ductile iron pipes. Corrosion performance of this new, mechanically superior material has not been as good as expected. A two year comparative study has recently been completed. Biological corrosion (by reducing bacteria) was one factor investigated. Large anaerobic culture vessels were contructed to contain both aqueous and soil media.
