Abstract: WITH AN INCREASE in the number of floating facilities in the offshore oil and gas industry in the last two decades there has been a rise in use of dynamic flexible riser systems. Similarly, there has been increase in use of static flexible jumpers and flowlines.

A baseline survey is required every time a new pipeline or pipeline-related equipment is installed, whether offshore or onshore. Such a survey aims to confirm construction quality, conformance to design specifications, and initial integrity status, and forms a reference point for future (in-service) surveys.

When flexible pipes are considered, there are some differences in the requirements for a baseline survey as compared to traditional rigid pipes, and understanding these differences is important when defining a scope of requirements for a baseline survey.

This paper outlines the purpose and requirements of a baseline survey of unbonded flexible pipe systems used in subsea applications. Typical non- conformances which may be found during the baseline survey are also presented.
