| Abstract: |
A DISTRIBUTION pipeline integrity-management (D-PIM) system is currently being implemented in Chile. A serious commitment from both the Regulator and industry players (LDCs) is facilitating the development of a comprehensive management system, initially focused on communications to educate the organization, then quality control related to the preparation and re-engineering of procedures, and re-education of personnel to develop a new way of doing things. This new direction is focused on the third step of process and risk management.
The Chilean Regulator instructed companies to use the ASME B31.8S standard as a guide for their D-PIM activities, which resulted in a very useful framework for conceptualizing and developing most of the D-PIM activities. The most important discovery was the realization that the involvement of a well-educated D-PIM management control group was a prerequisite for the organization.
