Abstract: THE DESIGN of a pipe-in-pipe (PIP) system developed to overcome long-term stress accumulation due to slope movement is presented. An explicit finite-element (FE) model of the PIP system is developed and subjected to loadings simulating slow-moving landslides, and the results from the FE model are presented. The PIP system and the monitoring devices will serve to verify the FE model and to validate the benefits of the PIP design against the landslide hazards.
