Abstract: Inspection of an old gas pipeline with poorer toughness properties revealed the existence of microbiologically-influenced corrosion (MIC) in the high-pressure network operated by Gastransport Services. Risk evaluation of the corrosion led to a reformulation of the pipeline-inspection program. In order to guarantee the integrity of the transmission system, it was decided to subject all the old high-pressure pipelines to in-line inspection (ILI). Analysis of the ILI data revealed unexpected threats to the system, making careful evaluation of the ILI data and results advisable, in order also to be aware of unexpected threats to the pipelines integrity. Knowing the cause of the defects is vital for assessing the integrity of the system, and determining the required inspection frequency.
